SPOILER this story is set in a parallel universe. I do want to examine how you got to this place in the story and I'm going to have to define my own angle on the "rules" and try not to sound too much like Terry Pratchett while I'm doing so. For now I'm going along with the idea of only being able to move between parallel universes within your own lifetime (cf. I forgot to tell you about something I really want to do. It's inspired by "Earthbound" and also those personalised books grannies get for little 'uns.

Before you got sent the adventure (hard copy), you would tell me your name, your best friend's name, your favourite food and some other stuff. Then that would get incorporated into the story.

This is like one of my favourite ideas. What do you think?

Rewrite

I nearly finished a slight rewrite of the first half, particularly the station which reads a bit Ladybird Book in first draft. I'll let you know when this dun. Factory thread is written and Gallimore/Forest are under way. So I think I'll hand out the rest of it in two sections:

Getting to the station - dun
Getting to the baddy's HQ - nearly dun
Kicking some baddy ass - not dun

I hope this section did not contain spoilers.

I haven't bothered with my own copyright, mostly because it would make me feel like a wanker at this stage. However, I would like to know if anyone kno how to find out what parts of Fighting Fantasy are copyrighted. I would be so upset if "Page 400" is copyrighted. I bet it's not.

I've already draughted (sp?) the factory scene, so that will be the first available bit. I'm just going through all my notes before I carry on writing (starring Jim Dale as me and Bernard Bresslaw as you). I've emailed myself lots of electronic notepads from work. One just says "Hitler". I'm such a spastic.

I had a bash at the QML program recommended by eyriebell. However, I think Firefox throws it skew wiff. I put the first few references into the program and IE will show the source code but not the adventure... and when I try to edit it I get a "run-time error 91". I don't know if it needs coaxing, or whether I need something that won't make Firefox have a benny. It's a...

Fights

Two adventurers went through the whole first half with only one fight, and a compulsory one at that. There are a few to be had but maybe they're not spread out enough. Also, I haven't specified that you have a weapon so it's presumably fisticuffs. Since the adventure is semi-realistic I found it difficult to make plausible excuses for fights. Perhaps I should tell the adventurer at the outset that they are Glaswegian?

Mistaeks to watch out for

I'm correcting these mistakes as I go, so if you received a copy of the adventure after the mistake was posted, it won't be there yo?

Vom noticed that if you play coconut shy, you then get sent to the wrong reference to get an ice cream.
If you've got a copy of the story sent before now, you need to know that 294 is the correct ice cream ref.

GET OFF MY TRAIN

The Mrs pointed out that you can get to the station within about four "page turns", and once you get on a train that's the end of part 1. So don't get on a train until you've had a good roam around. I'm not sure how to get round this.

I plan to offer a downloadable CD of music to be listened to as a soundtrack to the adventure, or just for fun. So ambient pieces, jingles and leitmotifs are all suitable. If you know how to do a music and you do a music for me, I would be so very happy. I'll be doing my own but I'm a bit rubbish. If anybody makes me a music I will give them a credit and a nice hug, and if the CD ends up on Amazon they'll get sixpence.

The most important piece I need is the SAP jingle. I'll probably work on that myself but any suggestions are welcome as I'd like to include jingles from all different eras of SAP, from Victorian times via two world wars to modern day.

There was once a Jim Jones style SAP community, so I could include a folksy protest song.

I've no idea how far I will go with this once I've finished writing it. For now I'd like to think about posting it online somewhere in a format where you can click to turn to references. I'd also like to make an Acrobat file of it so that people can print out their own book.
